Between:
This sound based
interactive installation piece focuses
on the emotional spaces left behind
after the termination of a relationship.
Two white chairs are set up facing
one another, visually referencing
a conversation. Headphones hang
attached to the side of the chairs,
when the participant sit in each
seat they listen to two separate
stories one told by a woman and
the other by a man. The stories
heard in the headphones are private
reflective stories expressing regret,
isolation, loneliness and the intangibility
of intimacy.
The experience
of listening to the piece creates
a private experience between the
participants and the piece as well
as isolating the participant in
a public space of the gallery. The
waiting audience is free to observe
the interaction between the two
people sitting face to face; the
body language, movements and expression
of the participants become a physical
representation of intimacy and space
with respect to relationships.
